Does your kitchen feel cluttered to the point that it discourages you from cooking? If so, you're not alone. Kitchen disorganization is a common problem that can take the joy right out of cooking. The following organizational and space-saving tips are designed to help you get your kitchen space back in working order.

Tip #1: Reclaim Your Counter Space

Probably the most frustrating circumstance you can face while cooking is the feeling that you don't have enough room to work with. Clear your counters by putting away any unnecessary appliances. If you don't have cabinet room for them, consider buying a separate shelving unit to store your appliances. This keeps large objects out of the way when you're not using them.

Tip #2: Buy a Spice Rack

A spice rack that you can hang on the wall or store in a cabinet or pantry is a major space-saver. All of those spice containers that you acquire over time slowly start to invade cabinet or pantry space that could be used for other items. Another option is to stop buying those spice containers altogether. Instead, buy from the bulk spices section using the small spice bags available at your grocery store. These can be easily stored in your refrigerator, taking up very little space and keeping your spices fresh.

Tip #3: Kitchen Utensil Holder

Oddly shaped kitchen utensils can be difficult to store in a drawer. They can get caught on the inside of the drawer cabinet, making it difficult to open and find what you need. To solve your utensil clutter problem, find a tall container that you can fit all of your utensil handles into and keep them next the stove. This way you can readily access all of your kitchen utensils and have them conveniently located next to your cooking area.

Tip #4: Cabinet Shelves

Consider buying some kitchen organizer shelves to make the most of your cabinet space. Often cabinet shelving is much taller than the cups or plates that we store in them. Utilize that space between shelves to its fullest by further dividing each shelf. This is a great method for separating different dish sizes from one another or creating two or three different levels for storing glasses or coffee cups.

Tip #5: Wall Rods

Install some inexpensive wall rods in your kitchen, which you can use to hang items on your wall instead of storing them in cabinets. Often you can find hooks or hanging baskets to attach to the rods. From these you can hang a number of items, including larger utensils, saucepans, skillets, woks, and popular ingredients that you want readily available.

I really agree on Tip # 2. The first step to an organized kitchen is to formulate a plan and assemble the proper items. One of the most challenging aspects of kitchen efficiency is organizing spices. Many recipes require an assortment of spices. Good thing the Spice rack is invented.
